Professor Pratorious was visiting his sister, when his young niece, Mary, showed him a list of all the American Presidents in order. As Pratorious looked at the list he mentioned to Mary that of the first five American Presidents, (George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe,) three died on July 4th. Mary looked at the list and said, "I bet that one of the three was James Monroe." Pratorious was surprised that Mary knew this. What is the next number in this series?
1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221,......?
Highlight between "Begin" and "End" to view the answer
Begin
"312211" Reason: It starts with 1 (first number) the next number describes the previous number. One one or 11 (second number) the third number describes the one before it. Two ones or 21 (third number) and the process continues. So the last number would be one that describes 111221 which would be three ones - two twos - and one one or 312211.
