INAUGURAL & FIRST EDITION COLLECTION

Inaugural Collection is a brand new category for 1997. Tyco decided to release the new models for 1997 range in a special Premiere Class or Gold Premiere or Ultra Class type models also. These are limited edition (1 of 20,000) models with detailed exterior paint, real rubber tires & chrome wheels. Each model, for the first time, will include a "1st Shot" diecast pre-production model of the vehicle. The pre-production model will be unpainted with no tempo or details while the corresponding model will be highly detailed. There were supposed to be 13 (US) models schedule to release for 1997 but Australian took the lead and released two models to inaugurate this series. By June 1997 it was decided that there would be no more models released in this series. Hence only 10 of the 15 models were released. In 1998 Mattel decided to continue this series with a new name called "First Edition." The listing of the released models is after the Inaugural listing. This series was continued in 1999 however the idea was dropped in the middle of the year hence all the scheduled models were not released. In the year 2000 Mattel decided to drop this category without any replacement. Here is a list of all the models that were released in the two series. I will be updating this list if any new models show up in the market for years to come.
