PREMIERE COLLECTION MODELS

Matchbox introduced the Premiere Collection models in 1996 to replace the World Class Series . These are highly detailed cars with clear windows, rubber tires & disc wheels. The production of these finest quality and detailed characterized models are limited to 25,000 each. These models are released in blister cards but each model comes with its own collector's box. Originally there were supposed to be 3 series with 6 models each but with popularity and demand of this series, TYCO decided to add 3 more series for 1996 and more series for 1997 and the years to come. Mattel took this series all the way to 21 by the end of 1998 and with the start of 1999, Matell decided to remove the numbers and assign names. Hence you would see the names as well as numbers for certain cars. Please remember that series 4, 5 & 6 include the same models as series 1, 2 & 3 respectively, with different color scheme. Also, Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Costco has released "Select Class Series." "JC Penney" has also released 8 models each as their Christmas '96 and '97 Promotions. Some miscellaneous models also fall into this category including the Coke Premiere, individual models from Toy Fairs, Toy Shows and Matchbox Collectibles. These models are similar to the Gold Collection or Inaugural Collection or Ultra Class Collection Here is a listing of all the models with the series they belong to.
