1999 MATCHBOX LINE PREVIEW

Here is a preview of all the 1999 models that I have collected so far from the net as well as from emails from Matchbox Forum. Also, some information is taken from Graham Neale's monthly newsletter and some from Charlie's web site. PREMIERE COLLECTION / MATCHBOX COLLECTIBLES

1999 ushers in a new name for the Premiere Collection range. Now its new name is "Matchbox Collectibles" with the conventional closed-in concentric box or spiral logo and in script below the box is the word "Collectibles". No longer will numbers be used for each series, instead there will be six themes: FIRE RESCUE, POLICE, MILITARY CONSTRUCTION, NOSTALGIA and CONTEMPORARY. A couple of models from each theme will be released periodically, not the entire theme at one shot. This range is clearly aimed at the adult buyer. Below are details about the models

Each model with a period Coca Cola logo is housed in a blisterpack with a box in it. The following will be issued in USA only:

The promotional material indicates that there will be twelve different convoys in 1999. Ones that did not show up in 1998, "Life Saver" and "Kellogg's Corn Flakes" will line-up alongside a

"Nestles" rig with a yellow Kenworth cab

Big Movers
Matchbox Toys is adding a new range in buses, Big Movers to parallel the Super Rigs. For 1999 they showed two mock-up models of Big Movers, Coca Cola and McDonalds and they are working on more. Do not expect to see thes models on store shelves until later in 1999. The packaging seems to be similar to the blisterpack housing the Super Rigs and the expected price point is the same as the Super Rigs.

Millenium Premiere Convoys
In premiere class with detail deco, premiere chrome wheels and rubber tires will be six "Millennium Rigs" The packaging will be fancy, but different from the 1998 Premiere Rigs. Each convoy cab will have a millennium logo on its roof. One of the cabs is a new casting, Kenworth T2000 which includes a sleeping compartment The livery on each of the trailer boxes will be themed: "History of ....." and include the following

REAL TALKIN MODELS

Some of the Real Talkin models issued in 1998 will appear in the MB100 line-up in 1999. In 1999 here will be 21 new Real Talkin model including new themes in "Coca Cola Delivery", "Ambulance", "Cable Installation", Phone Installation", "CAT", "Bulldozer", "Careless Movers" and "Blimps". The UFO and Rocket Transporters will be dropped from the real Talkin line-up for 1999. The UFO casting will be in the MB100 line-up.

To be released in Brazil is a set of Real Talkin models and an airport set speaking in Brazilian Portuguese. And at the tail end of the 1998 year, a set of Real Talkin models was released in Puerto Rico and Mexico speaking in Spanish. Its time for language lessons!! Bon Dia"? Buenes Dias
